Driving Policy Change

Our advocacy supports efforts that are vital to community health throughout New York City, such as direct services, administrative partnerships and WholeYouNYC, our community resource network.

Our strategy is simple: we support and advocate for public policies that address the health needs of NYC residents, with a focus on underserved communities.

Recent Highlights

The PHS team participated in the 39th Annual Somos Conference in early November. Organized by NYS Hispanic Task Force, the convening brought together elected officials, public sector partners, private stakeholders, labor groups, unions and community-based organizations to advance equity, foster community-driven solutions, and empower underserved communities. PHS participated in two panels highlighting our work and WYNYC’s SCN Program, and we were honored to join NYS Assemblymember Maritza Davila (Chair of the Assembly Social Services Committee) and the Hispanic Federation to discuss the impact of the federal cuts to health funding on New York residents.

PHS was honored to participate in a rally at Lincoln Hospital against federal funding cuts that will harm the health of New Yorkers. Led by Governor Kathy Hochul, Representative Ritchie Torres, and various public health community leaders. PHS’ COO was one of just 4 speakers called on by the Governor to demand action from federal lawmakers to protect Medicaid. This is the first time in PHS history that a sitting NYS governor has specifically requested PHS stand and speak alongside officials to protect the health of NYC residents. PHS continues to call on federal lawmakers to increase the investment in these essential services.
