NYC's First Lady Visits MIC Center

New York City’s First Lady Chirlane McCray toured Public Health Solutions’ (PHS) MIC Center at Eastern Parkway on February 22nd with New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DOHMH) Teen Connections program staff to learn more about our work to protect the health of the youth we serve.

The First Lady’s concern about potential changes in the delivery of sexual and reproductive health care services in relation to the new administration prompted the visit.

PHS’ Eastern Parkway MIC site has an ongoing partnership with the DOHMH, and this strong linkage, along with the quality, teen-friendly, non-judgmental care given by the MIC team are the main reasons why this site was chosen for the visit.

PHS’ partnership with Teen Connections, built and managed by MIC, includes reproductive health education and counseling from a Male Services coordinator, which takes place in local high schools. PHS has also been able to build relationships with foster care agencies that will result in PHS providing a Professional Health Educator who will educate teens in foster care on health.

The visit was a great opportunity for the First Lady to see firsthand the work that PHS has been doing in the community for over fifty years, and PHS would like to thank the MIC team for an incredible day.
