NYC Smoke-Free Recognized in Op-Ed from Brooklyn Borough President

The Brooklyn Reporter featured an Op-Ed piece by Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams, touting NYC Smoke-Free as an instrumental part of vetting movies that are part of the “Summer Movies Under the Stars” series to ensure that the movies were both family friendly and free of tobacco images.

Mr. Adams went on to discuss the need for more work to be done to continue efforts to prevent teens and young people from starting to smoke.

He calls for an “R” RIAA rating to be given to movies that contain tobacco imagery, and notes that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has said that giving future movies an “R” rating for tobacco imagery and use could be expected to reduce the number of teen smokers by nearly 20% and prevent one million smoking deaths among children.
