The Family Planning Capacity Building Program (FPCBP) offers specialized training, coaching, and technical assistance to health care organizations that are seeking to make measurable improvements and to align with evidence-based best practices for contraceptive care. Most recently, FPCBP led a Quality Improvement Collaborative with four non-Title X-funded FQHCs in NYC. The Collaborative’s objective was to increase the uptake of effective contraceptive methods among women not seeking pregnancy. The Collaborative facilitated improvement activities among participating sites through coaching, training, and technical assistance. Participating sites implemented clinical, operational, and administrative improvements and created sustainable infrastructure aligned with contraceptive best practices to increase annual pregnancy intention screening and effective contraceptive method use.

Public Health Solutions has developed a toolkit, Improving the Quality of Contraceptive Care in Primary Care Settings: A Toolkit for Practitioners, as the end product of the Collaborative. This toolkit comprises a compendium of materials that participating sites successfully used to implement their QI initiatives and to improve processes and outcomes related to contraceptive care. In addition, it offers guidance to support the application of these QI methods. It is intended for use by a Collaborative or by an individual practice, and is available to health care organizations and providers undertaking QI projects to improve contraceptive care in their practices.
