Bushwick Bright Start (BBS), a part of Healthy Families New York, is an evidence-based home-visiting program staffed by paraprofessional Family Support Workers. BBS provides comprehensive home-based parent education and support, child development techniques, and referrals to needed services for parents of newborns, prenatally through five years of age. BBS identifies expecting families in Bushwick, Brooklyn at risk for child abuse and/or poor health and/or child development issues and provides weekly home-visiting services. BBS attempts to establish a relationship with families during the early stages of pregnancy (ideally 1st or 2nd trimester) up until a newborn reaches the age of 90 days. Once enrolled, BBS continues working with the family until the child turns five.
The key goals of the program are to: support positive parent-child bonding and relationships; promote optimal child health and development; enhance parental self-sufficiency; and prevent child abuse and neglect.
